projects

i would like to start this off by saying with projects...you really only need two things. a good thrift store and a can of spray paint. its amazing what you can find on the shelves of a goodwill or a dav. i found this beautiful frame/mirror at a local antique store, which i usually dont like to go into just because as soon as its called an 'antique' it  quadruples in price. you can usually find something similar at a thrift store for a quarter of the price just because it was someones 'junk'. anyways, back to the mirror. i love the old fashioned ornate style, especially combined with modern elements.
the mirror ::before::
annnndd...after:)

i was so excited with the way this mirror turned out. and i love the navy frame up against our oatmeal colored walls

to go in the same room i wanted a dresser to go under this mirror opposite of where the bed would be. when my husband was at his old apartment when we first got together, he had this old bedroom set that he had bought from an estate sale. it looked ok back then...didnt look so great now. i took the old dresser, primed and painted it the same color as our white trim, and added cute knobs from hobby lobby. since i couldn't find navy knobs, i ended up picking out ones that i liked the shape of, bought a can of spray primer ( zinsser primer is the best) and then painted them with the same spray paint as i did the mirror. (i got both kinds at our local menard's home improvement store)

here is the dresser before (i had already taken out some of the drawers before i started painting)

and here is the dresser after some paint and some love.

like i said, just because something looks ugly, doesn't mean it has to stay ugly. buy it for cheap, put a little bit of time into it, and make it beautiful! more importantly, be proud of it!

love,
melissa
